Surprise panda cub born at zoo in Thailand Photos and Pictures

Surprise panda cub born at zoo in Thailand Photos and Pictures : The tiny panda cub that fits in the palm of your hand.

BANGKOK - A healthy panda cub was born Wednesday at a zoo in northern Thailand.

Staff artificially inseminated Lin Hui, a 7-year-old female, on Feb. 18, but had seen no signs she was pregnant, Chiang Mai Zoo’s director Thananpat Pongamorn said.

“She’s been anxious since yesterday. She did not want to get close to caretakers or any other people, but we didn’t know what the problem was,” Thananpat said.

Lin Hui’s cub screeched loudly as soon it was born early Wednesday, and appeared healthy, Thananpat said.

Zoo officials said they could not examine the newborn cub closely enough to determine its gender because it would get scared and was too vulnerable to disease, but that they would check when it was a week old.

The United States, Japan and Thailand are the only countries outside China to have bred pandas through artificial insemination, Thananpat said.

Only about 1,600 pandas live in the wild, mostly in China’s southwestern Sichuan province.

Two rare Peninsular pronghorns, male twins born at the Los Angeles Zoo on March 30, are fed at the zoo on April 24, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. Only 250 antelope-like Peninsular pronghorns are believed to exist in the wild. Native to the Vizcaino Desert in Baja California, they are one of the most endangered animals in Mexico. Pronghorns are the second fastest animal on Earth, next to African cheetahs in short distance running. For distances of more than a quarter-mile, pronghorns would beat all other animals. Newborn pronghorns begin walking within 30 minutes of birth and outrun humans within four days. Adults can run up to 70-miles-per-hour and maintain speeds between 40- and 60-miles-per-hour, without showing signs of distress, for an hour or more. This is the second time in a year that Peninsular pronghorns have given birth at the LA Zoo, the only U.S. institution to breed them so far.

They are quite intelligent cats and tend to bond strongly with their owner or family.

This breed of cat tends to have quite a quiet meow and wont speak up unless something is wrong like their dinner isn't on the floor! They are however rather talkative cats (males in particular) and will let you know when they want your attention. Birman cats are happy in the house but also love a garden to play and climb. They will however be happiest wherever you are and will follow you around to see what you're up to!

Most Popular Cat Breeds - Ragdoll Cats Pictures and Photos

About Ragdoll Cats Breed - Most Popular Cat Breeds - Photos and Gallery Pictures:
I know most of you are probably thinking 'Why call a breed of cat Ragdoll?'. Well as some of you may have already realised the breed was named after the floppy fabric doll that sits quietly wherever you put it. Like the doll, the cats are extremely docile and a little floppy which is why Ann Baker chose this name.

Ragdoll Lifespan : 9 - 15 years
Average Litter Size : 4 kittens

Ragdoll Appearance:

Ragdolls are large cats with bright blue eyes, semi-long hair and a pointed coat, this means that the points of the cat such as the face, legs and ears are a darker colour than the rest of the body. This characteristic was inherited from cats similar to Birman and Burmese that the Ragdoll breed derived from. Ragdolls mature quite slowly so the full pattern of their coats might not show until the age of 2. The do not reach their full size (15-20 lbs males and 10-15 lbs females) until the age of 4.

Ragdoll Character and Temperament :

Ragdoll cats are bred to be big, beautiful creatures that are both affectionate and loyal to their human owners. They are extremely interested in people and will follow you around the house or greet you when you arrive home from work. They are fairly docile animals, playful as kittens but would prefer to snuggle up on the sofa or on your duvet than chase string around the front room. They don't particularly like being on their own so if you are thinking of getting a Ragdoll make sure someone is home most of the time.

Ragdolls tend to be great with other domestic animals and children, they are inquisitive and intelligent and genuinely just enjoy company.

IS RAGDOLLS THE RIGHT BREED FOR YOU?

The Ragdoll is a very sweet and affectionate feline, well-known to get along with people, animals and with children. Rarely a climber, they tend to prefer playing on the floor or lounging on the couch, quite often on their backs with all four legs stuck up in the air. If you like a very friendly and loveable cat, then there are few felines who can compete with the love that this cat can dish out.

However, if you’re looking for a stereotypical cat – a feline who is aloof and distant, then keep on looking. The Ragdoll is not an independent breed of cat, nor do they do well when allowed to play outside unsupervised. The Ragdoll is very people-oriented and not only will suffer the doldrums if neglected, but can also get himself badly injured if left unattended. While these big beauties require little physical work, like all pets, they do require a great deal of responsibility.

Most Popular Cat Breed - Abyssinian Cats Photos and Pictures

About Abyssinian Cats - Most Popular Cat Breeds Photo Gallery Pictures:

Abyssinian cats have a distinctly ticked and tawny coat. Their tail and paws may show tabby markings, but the body of the Abyssinian cat must not. The Abyssinian cat has large almond-shaped green or gold eyes with a fine dark line around them, with large ears. Their coat is generally a warm golden color, but "Abbys" can also be blue, fawn, cinnamon and red. The Abyssinian cat is also a Silver Abyssinian variant whose coat shows shades of white, cream and grey.

Abyssinian Character and Temperament:

Abyssinian cats are extremely loving and affectionate animals and will very happily sit on their owners lap and snuggle in whilst being stroked. It is common for the owner and cat to build a strong bond with one another unlike that of another cat due to their loyal, gentle character. Abyssinians can become very attached to their owner/family and will yearn for them if they are away. If you are thinking of adding an Abyssinian to your family, it is essential that people are home for majority of the time as they tend to get very lonely if left alone. It is also important they have space to play; a garden would be perfect, as they love to climb, chase imaginary insects and leap in the air.

As well as being loyal, affectionate cats they are also extremely clever with an inquisitive nature who love to play, explore and be active. They will want to be involved in everything you do; they just love the company. Although they will quite happily entertain themselves for hours, Abyssinians are always most content when they are included in what their owner or family are doing. This breed of cat is especially interested when you are eating at the table and will try very hard to get you attention by either playing a silly game or clinging to your trousers! An Abyssinian would be most suited to a family who want an active, playful cat that also loves being a 'lap cat'. Some of the Abyssinian cat's important characteristic levels are shown below:

Maine Coons - Most Popular Cat Breeds Pictures -Pics

About Most Popular Cat Breeds - Maine Coons Pictures and Photos Gallery Images :

The Maine Coon is a breed of domestic cat well known for its distinctive physical appearance. It is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, specifically native to the state of Maine, where it is the official State Cat.

Although the Maine Coon's exact origins and date of introduction to the United States are unknown, many theories have been proposed. The breed was popular in cat shows in the late 1800s, but its existence became threatened when long-haired breeds from overseas were introduced in the early 20th century. The Maine Coon has since made a comeback and is now the second most popular cat breed in the world, according to the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA).

The Maine Coon is generally noted for its large bone structure, its rectangular body shape, and a long, flowing coat. The breed can be seen in a variety of colors and are known for their intelligence and gentle personalities. Health problems, such as feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and hip dysplasia, are seen in the breed, but testing is available to detect the genes responsible for causing these abnormalities.

Maine Coon cats are large and energetic cats which sometimes weigh 11.3 kilograms (25 pounds); their average weight is 6 to 9 kilograms (13-20 pounds) for adult males and less (7-11 pounds) for females. A full size Maine Coon cat often takes longer to reach full size than for most cats, usually reaching full size at age three or four.

The most common color/pattern of the Maine Coon cat is brown with tabby markings. Maine Coon cats are recognized in all colors except for chocolate, lavender, ticked tabby, and the point-restricted ("Siamese") pattern. Their eye color also varies widely. All patterns of the Maine Coon cat may have green, green-gold, or gold. Blue eyes, or one blue eye with one gold eye, are possible in white coat Maine Coon cats.

The Maine Coon is the oldest indigenous breed of domestic cat in North America. It originated in the State of Maine, where early frontiersmen believed that these large cats were the result of breeding between a domestic cat and a raccoon.

Maine Coon Cats are considered to be the "puppies" of the cat world. They love people and want to be involved in every aspect of family life. Many people consider the Maine Coon to be the "perfect pet" with their unusual personalities, habits and tricks - and eagerness to help with every activity in the house. Maine Coons never lose the urge to play their whole lives, and somehow manage to inch their way into the hearts and affections of everyone they meet, whether it be people or other animals.
